One More Opera

Our time in Paris is dwindling---we have less than two months left.  I attended my last opera at the Opera National a couple of weeks ago, but I decided to grab a couple of tickets to one more opera at the Opera Comique, Armide.  I did not know the opera (and was, perhaps, imagining something a bit light-hearted given the name of the theater), but, alas, the story was weighty, dramatic, and tragic.  It involved crusaders, slavery, war, murder, tragic love, and whatnot.  The music was in the Baroque style with period instruments, and I did enjoy that aspect of the opera a lot.

Even though the opera itself will not rank high on my list of favorites, I still enjoyed the production and performance.  And the theater itself was something to behold.  It was quite a bit smaller than the nearby Opera Garnier, but even more elaborately decorated, if that could be possible.  Here is a photo of one of the lobby ceilings.  It might be hard to tell, but the decorative element surrounding the chandelier with the light blue background is a mosaic.

And here are some of the different mosaic designs on the floors.

Of all of the memories from this year that are likely to stick with me, recollections from the many operas I attended will rank right up there.
