Windows of the Doge's Palace
While we were in San Marco Square, we decided to throw in a trip to the Doge's Palace, as one does. I didn't remember it clearly from 15 years ago but found it to be a bit of a let-down after seeing the Basilica right before. There was room after room dedicated to "the administration of justice" in the Republic of Venice and a fair amount of propaganda on how smoothly and equitably and efficiently the Republic was run. There were a couple of grand assembly rooms decorated with monumental paintings, but I didn't love the paintings. Neither the architecture nor the ornamentation of the palace was as distinctive or unusual or simply stunning as that in of the Basilica.
The windows, though, were simple and quite beautiful, I thought. And some afforded views out to San Marco Square.
